Chaplaincy (Kahui wairua) exists as a free, confidential service, to support students and staff: people of faith, people of half faith, and people of no faith at all. We’re here with a listening ear and a shoulder to anyone who needs one. We offer spiritual care, karakia and prayer, advocacy and wellbeing and life advice, as well as hospitality, care and reflection and respite space.
I’m John: a Christchurch boy, an Anglican priest in the parish of Avonhead, a disability advocate (spastic hemiplegia), and a Bible geek. I’ve worked with kids, youth, families at risk, the elderly, the homeless, and as a hospital and disability chaplain. I specialise in heavy lit, light music and listening to the highs and lows of life at Uni. I write bad poems, teach adults to read, cook slow food, and read Harry Potter.
